Knowsley offers sector specific training and employment for people wanting to work in the Healthcare sector. This initiative is managed under Knowsley Council’s New Deal provision to meet the high growth of employment opportunities within care professions.

Through partnership working with the St Helens & Knowsley Care Homes Association, the programme offers unemployed people in Knowsley the chance to gain professional training, qualifications and employment working with adults and children with physical disabilities, infirmaties and care needs. Local people are offered a placement within a Residential or Day Care Centre for up to 13 weeks to enable them to gain experience of working in the care profession.

This programme aims to meet the needs of employers, who currently struggle to fill vacancies, and can be designed in accordance with an employers particular requirements.

People entering this programme will be offered:

  • TOPSS training and qualifications delivered by Knowsley Council’s Social Services

  • Professional supervision and guidance

  • National minimum wage while training

  • Valuable experience working in a real job role

  • Routes to employment including support in gaining job opportunities
